Year 7 Instrumental Music Performance Academy

The Instrumental Music Performance Academy is a new performance-focused opportunity for Year 7 students at Living Faith, designed to build on students’ existing musical skills while introducing an exciting new approach to contemporary ensemble performance.

The Academy will have a strong focus on rhythm, percussion and ensemble performance, with students working together as a performance team and developing skills inspired by contemporary drumline.

Students will learn to perform as an ensemble, developing coordination, timing, listening, concentration and confidence while working towards exciting performance opportunities throughout the year.

What Students Will Explore:

Contemporary percussion and rhythm-based ensemble performance
Drumline-inspired techniques and performance skills
Snare drum, bass drum and tenor percussion
Rhythm, timing and coordination
Ensemble awareness and listening skills
Performance technique and stage presence
Teamwork, leadership and confidence

More Than Just Music

The Academy provides students with the opportunity to learn and perform as part of a team. Working together to create a strong, coordinated performance encourages students to develop confidence, focus, communication, resilience and a sense of belonging. Students will be challenged to work together, listen to one another and take responsibility for their role within the ensemble.

Performance Opportunities

Students will work towards performances throughout the school year, providing opportunities to showcase their skills to the school community and beyond.

Who Is It For?

The Academy is designed for Year 7 students who are already learning an instrument through formal lessons and are looking to extend their musical experience through ensemble performance.

Students from any instrumental background are encouraged to take part, with the Academy providing an opportunity to develop new skills in rhythm, percussion, coordination and contemporary ensemble performance while working alongside other young musicians.

Students do not need any previous drumline experience. The program will introduce students to the techniques and skills required to perform as part of a percussion ensemble, while building on the musical foundations they already have.

Building Something New

The Instrumental Music Performance Academy is an opportunity for Year 7 students to be part of something new at Living Faith, developing a unique ensemble program that combines musical skill, physical coordination, teamwork and performance. Students will learn, rehearse and perform together while building the skills and confidence to take their music to the next level.

Instrumental Music Program

Since collaborating with Living Faith in January 2022, Majenta Music has contributed to the growth of the Instrumental Music program. In just two years, the program doubled in size, expanded its instrument offerings, and together with the school community, fostered a positive and thriving musical environment. Majenta Music is proud to support and be part of this ongoing journey.

Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass) - Years 3-7
Woodwind (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone) - Years 3-7
Brass (Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium) - Years 3-7
Percussion / Drums - Years 3-7
Piano - Prep (Sem 2)-Year 7
Guitar - Year 1-Year 7

Commitment to Excellence & Enrichment:

Year 2 String Immersion Program

The Year 2 String Immersion Program at Living Faith is a vibrant part of the curriculum, delivered through a close collaboration between Majenta Music and the school. Every Year 2 student participates in weekly lessons that introduce them to string playing in a supportive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate way. Since Majenta Music joined the school community, the program has expanded to offer both violin and cello, providing students with broader opportunities for musical exploration.

Program Features:

Weekly lessons delivered to all Year 2 students by our dedicated String Specialist, supported by the school's Performing Arts Teacher
Aligned with curriculum and learning goals
Progressive, sequenced learning approach to build strong technical foundations
Incorporation of digital tools and interactive activities to enhance engagement
Opportunities for all students to perform at events such as:
- Performing Arts Showcase
- Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Sustainability & Support:

Relief specialists available to maintain lesson continuity when needed
Program expanded to include both violin and cello, increasing access and variety
Guest educators — including esteemed musicians like Loreta Fin — bring fresh perspectives and expertise

This program ensures that students not only develop core musical skills but also gain confidence, creativity, and a love for music that can last a lifetime.
